Why is deforestation so detrimental to these communities?
The destruction of healthy forest systems causes problems on multiple levels. Trees provide habitat for animals, purify water sources, control flooding and erosion, and help replenish the soil with nutrients needed for agriculture. When farmers cannot grow anything, their farms fail and they have no choice but to move to overcrowded cities in search of work. They often have to resort to selling themselves or their families into slavery to survive.
To date, Tree-Nation Ecosystem have planted over 44 million trees in project sites in Haiti, Nepal, Madagascar, Indonesia, and Nigeria. The success of the projects lies in the interdependence of local communities and their surroundings. By employing local villagers to plant trees, the forests are able to regenerate, and support and nourish the local community once again, thus the cycle of interdependence is restored.
Believing in the interconnectedness of all living things is at the heart of what we do. Therefore, choosing to partner with Tree-Nation Ecosystem as part of our '1 bottle sold = 1 tree planted' initiative was an easy and natural decision for us.
